Halton Region Rebate for Toilets
Why is the Region of Halton introducing a Toilet Replacement Program?
On average the toilet is the biggest water consumer in the home, accounting for up to 30% of daily consumption. Inefficient toilets can waste thousands of litres of water a year.
By switching to a Halton Approved water-efficient toilet you will:
- Reduce your water use in your home.
- Minimize the impact you make on the environment.
- Save money on your water bill.
Recent changes to Halton Region’s Toilet Rebate Program commencing January 1, 2011. These changes are in response to upcoming Provincial adjustments regarding the sale and installation of 13 litre toilets:
- For toilets purchased after December 31, 2010, Halton’s Toilet Rebate Program will apply only to models that meet WaterSense® performance guidelines. This includes most high-efficiency (HET) dual flush and 4.8 litre or less toilets.
- Six-litre toilets purchased after December 31, 2010, will no longer be eligible for a rebate in Halton Region.
Halton-approved six-litre toilets purchased between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2010 will remain eligible for a rebate, even if submitted to Halton Region after January 1, 2011, while the program is in operation. For toilets purchased after December 31, 2010, Halton will offer a rebate on WaterSense® labelled high-efficiency toilets only.

Halton Region encourages residents to maximize water efficiency in their homes, and will continue to promote the installation of the most water efficient toilet models available. All Halton-Approved toilets under the revised 2011 criteria will be eligible for a $75 rebate, as per the Terms and Conditions of the program.
The program continues to be extremely popular and in order to allow participation by as many Halton residents as possible; Halton’s program continues to be limited to a total of one toilet rebate per single-family home.
WaterSense® criteria includes most HETs with a maximum allowable single-flush volume of 4.8 litres, plus most dual flush toilets. In addition, WaterSense® toilets demonstrate sustained water savings, and are equipped with chlorine resistant trim components.
